The U.S. Denies Artists' Visas

The third annual Chicago International Latino Theater Festival is in full effect. For the first time in its history, it's had to pull a performance due to issues with the performer’s visas.

The team behind Destinos Festival was surprised when the U.S. Department of Citizenship and Immigration Services denied the cast and crew of a Mexican production their visas.

The letter from USCIS says the reason is that there was not enough evidence that the play was 'culturally unique', a requirement for obtaining an artist visa.
