Summer for Change

It’s the last day of class for CPS students. So what do they do after? City Leaders believe they have an answer, launching a new summer safety program called Summer for Change.

It’s targeted toward kids in 8th grade and above. For six weeks, youth advocate programs and children’s home and aid will join forces, providing individualized mentoring to at risk teens for four hours each day. City leaders also say they will offer group trauma based therapy to help kids talk through the issues they face, and the violence they see around them. The program will also include field trips, community service, sports and free lunch.

The Jam's Brandon Pope chats with CPS CEO Janice Jackson about the program.
