Horse Carriage Ban Fight Continues

As the call to get horse carriages off Chicago streets is getting louder, the Chicago Alliance for Animals is pushing to get this issue on the mayor's agenda.

At the beginning of October, the Chicago Alliance for Animals dropped off 20,000 signatures in favor of banning horse carriages to Mayor Lori Lightfoot's office.

Jodie Wiederkehr, with the organization, says out of the 50 aldermen, 20 have co-sponsored the ban and 32 are in support of it.

Wiederkehr says the issue needs to be looked at and reviewed before November when horse carriage operators can get their licenses renewed.

Regardless, Wiederkehr is confident that if there was a vote before November it’d be in favor of banning horse carriages.
