Day 26 of Partial Government Shutdown, Local Townships Offering Help

Negotiations over border wall funding are at a standstill as we enter day 26 of the partial government shutdown.

In hopes of offering aid to federal workers affected local townships are lending a helping hand.

Moraine Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi says the duty of township government is to provide help to the residents affected by something like a government shutdown,  unemployment or another issue.

She adds at Moraine Townships there’s a community supported food pantry that has produce, dairy and meats for those who need it.

All the federal workers have to do is bring their federal government I.D. as well as a utility  bill or other proof of residency.

The pantry is located on 800 Central Avenue in Highland  Park. It's open from 9 a.m. to Noon Tuesday and Thursdays and 1 p.m. to 3:30 on Wednesdays. If you can't make it at that time you can always make an appointment.

Going without pay during the shutdown means not knowing how you'll pay for housing, medical bills, utility bills and that can be incredibly stressful.

The township wants you to know they can offer support do deal with that as well. West Deerfield Township is also offering assistance by giving food and offering workers a place to stay.
