Chicago Public Schools Students Have A Safe Place To Spend The Summer

Chicago's Safe Haven Program is back up and running so CPS students can find a place to spend the summer and stay out of trouble. The program is aimed at keeping students safe and off the streets. It’s been around for 10 years and is a partnership between the Chicago Public Schools and other faith-based organizations. The biggest plus is that it’s accessible throughout the entire city of Chicago. From north, west and south side churches, there are 37 sites that offer Safe Haven, weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids can take part in free anti-violence workshops that focus on positive conflict-resolution and anger management. Safe Haven also allows the youth to use their creativity by including activities such as arts, crafts, field trips and learning opportunities. The services will run through August 16th, every session includes meals and finding a location closest to you has never been easier. Click here and all 2019 participating churches are listed by zip code along with the pastor's name. Mayor Lori Lightfoot and CPS have said their top priority is to keep students safe and healthy whether they are in class or away from school.
