A Pair of Pickpocketers Target CTA riders

Chicago Police say a pair of men pickpocketing CTA riders are picking up steam.

CPD released a new community alert for CTA riders after two men have been linked to at least nine thefts in the last month.

They're urging people to take extra precautions with their wallets and purses. The alert is for commuters who typically ride around the downtown area.

Police first sent an alert out about the men last week, but issued a second yesterday.

The pickpockets are two men between the ages of 45 and 60. They are allegedly taking wallets, purses and book bags from riders.

Police say one of the men will cause a distraction or block the person's walkway, while the second guy makes the move to take their personal belongings.

CPD says the men then quickly get to the nearest ATM and withdraw cash before the victim's bank can deactivate the credit or debit cards.

These thefts are happening during the day and evening hours; police say the men have hit at least nine times since September 19th.

The most recent one was last Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Street CTA stop.

CPD says riders should always be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity immediately.

If you are being targeted, try to remember something unique about the suspect like a scar or a tattoo.

If you have any information regarding the identity of these men, please contact area central detectives.
