'Fill a Bag, Fill a Bus' Food Drive May 2024: Help Feed a Family In Need this Summer!
It's almost summertime, Chicago, and we need your help feeding our neighbors. CW26 has partnered with MeTV FM, the CTA, Jewel-Osco, Greater Chicago Food Depository and Butcher Boy Cooking Oils for our 'Fill a Bag, Fill a Bus' food drive. We’ll be at Jewel-Osco stores asking you to help fill a CTA bus with canned goods and other nonperishable food items for Greater Chicago Food Depository food pantries to distribute to neighbors suffering from food insecurity.
As schools close for the summer, students that depend on their daily school lunches will be left without a meal. Making things more difficult is that donations are down in the summer, leaving those that are food insecure with less choices at the pantries.
If you want to help make a difference, here’s how
Thursday, May 16, we'll be at the Jewel-Osco at 4650 W 103rd St. in Oak Lawn collecting donations from 12P-5:30P. Come by, grab a bag, fill it with nonperishables, and add it our CTA bus! Plus, come say hi to CW26 talk show host Steve Wilkos who is helping us make a difference in his hometown! He’ll be collecting donations with us from 2P-3P!
The following day, Friday, May 17, join us at the Jewel-Osco, 7525 W. Lake Street in River Forest from 12P-5:30P.
The Food Depository’s most needed items include: canned beans, canned chili, canned soups, canned stews, canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned fish and peanut butter.
If you can’t make it to Jewel-Osco, you can still make a tremendous impact by donating online. These monetary donations are so impactful, that $1 can provide 3 meals. Hear the difference you can make from the Director of Communications for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Man-Yee Lee below.
