March for long-term mental health resources

The Collaborative for Community Wellness is coming together to fight mental health disparities at their rally Thursday morning.

The rally is set to start at 10 a.m. at The Port Ministries on 50th and Hermitage. Everyone will then march to 43rd and Ashland, which is a location that used to be a mental health clinic that is now shut down.

This group of community activists and organizers are fighting for mental health resources in Chicago.

Jaime Gonzalez, one of the organizers, says the hope is that by the end of this rally Chicagoans will understand something needs to be done for our communities. Gonzalez says the time is now since it is election season.

Back in 2012, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced half of the city's mental health clinics would close. When the mayor made this decision to close clinics, he said it would send patients to private clinics, which would improve care.
