Aretha Franklin's Chicago ties

After the news of her passing, Chicago remembers Aretha Franklin and her connections to the city.

Franklin always claimed Chicago as one of her favorite cities. It's where she was crowned the Queen of Soul. It happened right at the historic Regal Theatre in 1964. That Queen of Soul title is something she carried with her and no doubt lived up to.

An undeniable part of Aretha Franklin’s legacy is the film industry, popping up in many soundtracks. But she’s only acted on screen twice. Her most memorable moment is the show-stopping Blues Brothers scene. It was actually filmed at a University Village Diner in 1980.

Funeral arrangments are expected to be announced for Franklin early next week.
