Safe Passage Program Expands to 14 more CPS Schools

The mayor announced 14 more schools are being given safe passage routes. It's all with the goal of keeping kids safe as they're walking to and from school. That means 159 CPS schools will have trained staff on hand to get kids to and from school safely in some of the toughest neighborhoods. It's expected to become official Wednesday - with a vote by the board of education. The expansion will cost $1 million. According to the mayor's office, crime is down 32% on safe passage routes since the 2012-2013 school year. Overall the city is trying to get this out to as much of the 600 CPS schools as possible.
