Boy in Critical Condition After Being Shot in Head

A three-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was shot in the head overnight in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 11:40 p.m. Sunday night near 52nd and Peoria.

The boy’s mother told police she was sitting in a parked car with two other children when three men walked up to the car and opened fire. Police say his mother speedily drove off and was able to flag down an unmarked police car a few blocks away.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, officers could be seen investigating a car blocked off at a gas station on Halsted and Garfield. The car was clearly damaged from bullets and a window was shattered near a child's car seat. About a dozen shell casings were also found on the street near 52nd and Peoria.

Right now, one is in custody as detectives continue to investigate.
