In an effort to improve the availability of affordable, preventative health care in some of Chicago’s most at-risk communities, female leadership from the largest faith-based organizations across the city have come together to sponsor a city-wide health fair providing a wide variety of information, testing and consultation to the community for free.
In this episode we discuss several important challenges being addressed by the Chicago Department of Public Health including a recent spike in local cases of West Nile Virus disease, initiatives to reduce obesity rates in children and adults, improving the availability of fresh produce and healthy food choices in underserved communities, reorganization of Chicago’s mental healthcare resources to better serve patients lacking health insurance and addressing street violence as a public health concern instead of simply a law enforcement issue.
In this episode we get an overview of the ongoing economic and political crisis facing the European Union, the potential impact of an EU breakup on the United States’ economy and how these international challenges will play a role in the platforms presented by the Presidential candidates in this year’s coming national election.
