First new construction in the Pullman Historic District in decades

The Pullman Historic District was Chicago’s first planned industrial community. The neighborhood was established in 1880, surrounding the Pullman Palace Car Company. Many of the buildings in the area are historically preserved; however, this community may have its first new development in decades very soon.

According to Curbed Chicago, a 38-unit, mixed-income artist loft is in the works. This new development comes on the heels of the recently opened Whole Food Distribution Center, located in the Pullman neighborhood as well.

The new development will be constructed on a vacant lot located at the corner of 111th Street and Langley Avenue. The new project will be sandwiched between a new building and an existing structure that will be redeveloped in conjunction with the new construction. The project is on track to break ground in the late spring or early summer, pending historic review. The project shows the ongoing efforts to revitalize the Pullman community.
