Antennas
Selecting an antenna is an important part of transitioning to digital television (DTV) in your home. In some cases, the antenna that provides quality reception for the old signal will also provide good DTV reception - however, in some cases it may be necessary to upgrade your antenna. Factors include the distance between your television and the transmitter site, the location of your antenna (indoor or outdoor), and the stations you are trying to watch.

Purchasing a high-quality indoor or outdoor antenna is the best way to guarantee that you'll receive all available digital channels.

WCIU, The U and its sister stations transmit from the top of the Sears Tower. If you are within 15 miles of the Sears Tower, you should be able to receive all of our stations with a basic UHF antenna.

If you live between 15-30 miles from the Sears Tower, you should upgrade to a premium antenna like the Terk model HDTVi.

If you live further than 30 miles from our broadcast tower, we recommend purchasing and installing an outdoor UHF antenna for the best possible reception.

Here is a selection of antennas recommended by WCIU, The U:

Indoor 0-15 miles: Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor Antenna

Indoor 15-30 miles: Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor Antenna

30+ miles: Use an outdoor antenna. The Channel Master 4221 or Channel Master 4228 will work in almost any situation. These are 'low profile' antennas and can easily be mounted in your attic or rooftop without the look of the large TV antenna.
