July 5- Save Gas- Stay Home and Watch “The Car!”
We’ve got a real treat tonight on the Svengoolie show-
in spite of these high gas prices, we’re rolling out “The Car!”
Gas isn’t an issue with this beauty, friends- because it’s powered by pure evil!!!
Take a look at the sleek interior of this 1977 model film- it’s luxuriously appointed with none other than James Brolin, as a
desert town policeman who keeps getting reports of a mysterious black car causing mayhem in his community. Before long, he learns the awful truth- it is a car possessed by evil, that’s making targets of pedestrians, drivers, and police-
no matter where they are- even if they’re inside a house!
Other accessories in this movie include Ronnie Cox, Kim Richards (from the old “Escape from Witch Mountain”) and even John Marley from “the Godfather”- you know, the guy who found a horse’s head in his bed…no, he doesn’t find a head gasket in his bed in this flick.
There are a lot of “faceless vehicles out to kill” movies- one of the best, Steven Speilberg’s made-for-TV “Duel”-with Dennis Weaver being pursued by a killer truck. You’ve seen “Christine” and “Maximum Overdrive” as well. This movie certainly has its fans- but also a major helping of seventies cheesiness to it. So- we’ve helped it along here and there with some added “Svensurround” to help keep it entertaining. Don’t worry, purists- you can always get this film in pristine form on dvd.
Speaking of “Svensurround”- here’s some early warning- you will see that next week’s Sven offering is “the Deadly Mantis.”
I can hear you now- “But, Sven! You just ran the Mantis flick last week! Why so soon again?” Well, I’ll explain more as we get a little closer- but, for now, let me just say, you’ll want to watch it again next Saturday- because we’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty, and treated the ENTIRE flick in “Svensurround!” I’m warning you now- it’s chock full of new fun! And- let me state for the ones who’ll complain that we did so- why didn’t you just watch it in its original form last week?!
Anyway, this week- tonight- there’s “Svensurround” and more, as “The Car” speeds across the desert, playing hit and run-more accurately, hit and hit and hit and hit and run. Check it out on WCIU at 9 pm- on Me-TV at 1 am- and at various times on our Milwaukee and South Bend stations. Did you guys up north know that the show runs on the new Me-Milwaukee?
Now you do!!! So, buckle up!
