April First- Who’s Your Favorite April Fool?!
Nope, sorry- not going to write one of those “I’m retiring/the show has been cancelled/etc…April Fool!” deals today. Just gonna give you a random sampling of stuff to lead off April…
First of all, I’m starting off April with a visit to then Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind- where I’ll be one of the “April Fool” guests on air at CRIS Radio. No, most of you cannot get that station- it’s a special service for the visually-impaired, where magazines, newspapers, etc, are read for those unable to read them. I’ll do a half-hour stint, and they usually give me something that I can add some humor to- like an “Us” magazine, or whatever. The Lighthouse is an incredible place, that also provides work for the visually-impaired- the clocks used in U.S. government buildings have been built there for years! I got a great tour of the place a couple years ago, and it’s pretty amazing- for more info, check out their site:

Our Svengoolie shirts are still selling briskly, but we are discussing doing a new design- the current “It Came from Berwyn” design has been around over a couple years, and has been the best-selling Sven shirt ever, but Sven fans demand more merchandise…would a new design still be “glow-in-the dark?” Chances are it would, since so many of you WANT that feature, and it’s been a big selling point!
Just a quick thank you to you viewers –one quarter hour of last Saturday’s Sven show “Tarantula”- ended up as the highest-rated thing on WCIU all that day! Thanks for the support!
While mentioning the passing of Chicago radio great Wally Phillips, we neglected to mention the passing of special effects genius Harper Chadwick-the unsung hero who actually created the “formula” for the gelatinous mass known as ‘the Blob” in the 1958 Steve McQueen horror classic.
Are you already confused about the broadcast stations’ switch to digital TV that will happen next February? Don’t look now, but soon, you may be able to see some informational spots on our station featuring yours truly, Svengoolie, that may help explain how the changeover will affect you, and how you can prepare for it.
Speaking of which-if you haven’t tuned in the station yet, check out “the U” all day today – to see who’s doing those “dog station identification” spots that you see between programs…
It’s our way of “April Fool”-ing our viewers, and I think it’s a fun surprise…
…as is the fact that, I kind of lied. I DID write an April Fool gag in this blog-one of the items I wrote about is a fake. Hope you can tell which one it is…maybe I’ll reveal it in a future blog…
