Ho-ho-ho!(As Harry Caray would have said, that’s “oh-oh-oh” backwards…) I want to thank everybody who made the trip to Riverside to see “Sventa Claus” last night at the Comic Collector! It was a great time, as always…as will be next weekend in Countryside, Downers Grove, and Aurora! You’ll find out more about that tonight on our show- where you may think you’ve seen a ghost! Well, actually, you’ll be right- it’s “the Ghost of Frankenstein”- and there’s both ghostly and ghastly doings afoot! This is the film that falls in between “Son of Frankenstein” and “Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man”- as the good natured townfolk decide to blow up the remains of the Frankenstein estate- where Ygor somehow survived the bullets of “Son of…” and still resides! As the place is collapsing around him- in the dried-up sulfur pit that was bubblin’ hot in the last flick- he uncovers-the Monster! From there, it’s off to find- the previously unmentioned BROTHER of the Son of Frankenstein…to make some changes in the monster- and first on the list is- giving him a change of brain!

It’s great to see Bela Lugosi as the Ygor character again…and the monster this time out is none other than big Lon Chaney Jr.-who was cast as the Monster even as he was filming the original “Wolf Man.” He actually replaces Boris Karloff, who had been the monster in all the previous movies, but was now busy on Broadway appearing in “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

Sir Cedric Hardwicke is the newly revealed additional Frankenstein heir…and, once you’ve watched, you tell me- when the “Ghost of Frankenstein” (supposedly his father- not played by Colin Clive, who, I believe had died by then) shows up to his son- is he actually played by Sir Cedric as well?

We also see what was the first appearance of Else, the daughter of this son, who appeared in last week’s movie as Ilona Massey- but, in this film- which actually came out before last week’s film (are you confused enough yet?)- she’s played by Evelyn Ankers!

Tonight’s show draws a little from real life- it was shot the week that I was called to jury duty- and it also features a new arrival- created and constructed by our friend, the amazing comic book artist Alex Ross! The whole show is a lot of fun, between the movie, the new “fill-in host” and some extra nostalgia bits. Get set for a worthy entry in our “Franken-Fall” festivities- tonight at 9 on WCIU - also at 1 am on Me-TV!
