Just wanted to quickly acknowledge the passing of someone whose work has appeared on the Sven show- Charles B. Griffith (No relation to Andy or Stewie) was a screenwriter who did a lot of work for Roger Corman.

He was born here in Chicago, and his greatest hit would have to be “Little Shop of Horrors”- he wrote the original screenplay, about the shy klutzy young guy who ends up raising a strange plant from outer space, which thrives on- human blood! The original Corman film features a young Jack Nicholson as a masochistic dental patient. Griffith himself made cameo appearances, as another pained dental patient-and, as a burglar who ends up as plant food. The film was later, of course, later turned into a Broadway musical, which was then turned into a major motion picture. One of his other biggies that has appeared on Sven is “Death Race 2000”-he even directed some later films, including the original “Eat My Dust” which starred Ron Howard (finally- A REAL Griffith –Andy-connection!)

Let’s salute Griffith by making today’s monstrous movie pick that great 1975 flick “Death Race 2000”- featuring the futuristic race where hitting pedestrians is one of the goals!

The variety of actors in the film, from Sylvester Stallone to Fred “Love Boat’s Gopher” Grandy and the outrageous competition- not to mention the whole rebel forces against the government” story arc- makes this a real cult classic-which, naturally, they’re planning to do a re-make of! Do yourself a favor, and watch the original- I hope we can screen it again on Sven…

Meanwhile, please check out my appearance info- next Saturday, it’s Fright Fest at Great America-with more to come- and I want to meet YOU at one of our events this October!
