It’s alive! It’s - okay, I’ll tone it down, but it is exciting news- tonight at 9, the season shifts to –“Franken-Fall!” Yes, the Svengoolie show begins a Frankenstein festival- every Saturday night at 9, we’ll show you one of the classic Universal Frankenstein flicks!

We kick it off tonight with what may be one of the finest horror comedies ever made- the beloved “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein!” For all of you who watched them meet the Mummy, the Invisible Man, etc., and kept asking me –“when will you show the one where they meet Frankenstein?”-HERE IT IS! Just in time for Halloween!

After the success of Bud and Lou’s “Hold That Ghost”- featuring scary elements- Universal wanted to follow up with something else in the fright neighborhood. An old stage show idea that the boys had once considered was re-vamped, and took advantage of the fact that Universal had most of screen’s greatest monsters “under contract!”

You see Bud and Lou as package delivery men, who bring the “supposed” remains of Dracula and the Frankenstein Monster to a “House of Horrors” museum- not realizing the stuff is for real- and that Dracula is quite alive (or, undead!) Drac plans to revive the Monster and bring him back to full power- but wants to replace his evil brain with a simple mind that would be easy for him to control. Paging Costello! Along the way, Larry Talbot- the Wolf Man- shows up, eager to thwart Dracula’s plans. It’s the top trio of horror-with a top comedy duo. You get Bela Lugosi as Dracula- Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolf Man- and Glenn Strange as the Monster! Plus, Bud and Lou, still in good shape- one of my favorite quick, almost throw-away gags, is when Lou pulls a cloth off a table, leaving the stuff that was on it still on the table, and does a quick satisfied take to the camera!

We’ll be raking in the chills and chuckles as “Franken-Fall” begins with “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein!” In fact- I’m making it today’s monstrous movie pick. And, next week- tune in for the Monster’s very first appearance!
