A busy night tonight for yours truly- with the double shot of the Portage Theater and the Venuti’s Halloween party in Addison- the info is above, for anyone interested in last-minute planning. Add to that the beginning of “Franken-Fall” tomorrow night on our show, and you can feel the electricity in the air –or is that just from those electrodes on the Monster’s neck?!
Talking about Frankenstein- how many different versions have you seen? There’s the Universal Frankenstein, and the Hammer Frankenstein- but what about some of the others?
You must remember the adolescent monster of “I Was a Teenage Frankenstein” from the American International fabulous fifties! Young Gary Conway was the guy under the less-than-impressive make-up, as the teen that Dr. Whit Bissell hand-crafted. The famous quote from this movie: “Speak! You have a civil tongue in your head- I know, I sewed it back myself!” The other memorable point is Whit’s garbage disposal for body parts- his pet alligator!
How about the Monster portrayed by a Goodfella- in the 1994 “Frankenstein” flick, Bobby De Niro was the Creature! It’s always fun to imagine him using the mannerisms of other characters he played –transposing them to his Frankenstein character!
Let’s wind this up with our monstrous movie pick, and make it yet another Frankenstein-“Frankenstein Conquers the World!”
I remember seeing this listed in the TV Guide as a kid, being all excited (since, as I think I mentioned, Frankenstein was THE monster back when I was a kid)-then, being confused when I saw this- a Japanese film, featuring Nick Adams, in which the “Frankenstein” is a heart- exposed to radiation- that eventually grows into a giant wild young man with a somewhat flat head- hence his nickname- Frankenstein! He ends up in a smackdown with a giant Godzilla-type lizard. This 1965 flick will undoubtedly be one of the oddest Frankenstein films you’ll ever see!
