I remember from “Ghostbusters” that you’re not supposed to “cross the streams”- but let me segue from Sven to “Stooge-a-palooza” mode just for a second- to note that this is the 104th birthday of many people’s favorite Stooge- Jerome “Curly” Howard! Wish him a “happy birthday to you and woob-woob-woob- woo!” Which reminds me- for some reason, a few people have asked about a recent short we showed- “Three Little Beers”- aka “the golf one”- where Curly is on the golf course, and chops down a tree to get his golf ball, which is up in a branch. Some viewers think they heard the Italian groundskeeper who confronts Curly say “who you think you are, George Bush?” Was this eerie precognition? Heck no- he actually says, mimicking the stereotypical broken English of Italian immigrants (hey! Watch it! Those are some of my relatives!) “who you think you are- George Wash’?”- referring to Washington chopping down the cherry tree. To be fair, maybe Curly DID chop down a bush, as well…

My thanks to the record crowd who turned out for our big O’Connor Hyundai Oak Lawn appearance! The staff was great there, and the Sven fans were the best! Coming up this Friday- two more big appearances- we’ll talk about them in the days to come- but- for the Portage Theater (see the appearance listing) –be sure to dress up as- ME! There’ll be a Svengoolie look-alike costume contest! Just wanted to give you some advance warning, so you can get the make-up, costume and chicken…

My monstrous movie pick for today is based on Bram (Dracula) Stoker’s novel “Jewel of the Seven Stars.” It’s the 1971 Hammer horror “Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb”- with the sexy Valerie Leon as both the dead Egyptian princess (missing a hand!) AND her modern reincarnation (not missing much of anything!)The ancient Egyptian sorceress /princess is brought from her tomb to London- along with her severed hand, which wears a mystic red jeweled ring. When Valerie wears this less-than –QVC-worthy bauble- revenge is wrought on the men who plundered the ancient tomb. I ran this one in my old WFLD days, and it’s typical Hammer fare- with the babes, blood, and terrific sets and color! (Not to mention- you know how I enjoy female mummies!
