All right, Frankenstein fans- get set for well over a month of films starring your favorite monster- as falling leaves bring falling victims when the Svengoolie show begins- “Franken-Fall!” No, it’s not about Al Franken suffering a nasty spill- it means that, every Saturday night at nine, the Svengoolie show will feature another of the great Universal Frankenstein movies. We begin this Saturday with the one film everybody has been asking for since we first showed “Abbott and Costello Meet…” movies- it’s one of the very best horror comedies ever made- “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein!” Then, in the weeks to come, you’ll see the original “Frankenstein”- with Boris Karloff in the role that established him as Universal’s King of Horror! Also coming up- “Bride of Frankenstein”- which was one of the highest rated movies I ever showed when I was back at WFLD.You’ll see plenty of scenes that were parodied in Mel Brooks’ “Young Frankenstein” in both these two films, and the super-sized “Son of Frankenstein”- one of the longest of the Universal monster flicks! That’s the one with the police inspector with the wooden arm, who thinks nothing of sticking a few darts into the wooden limb-and Bela Lugosi as the deranged hunchback Ygor! But wait- there’s more! You’ll get even MORE Franken-films- like “House of Frankenstein” that I mentioned yesterday, “Ghost of Frankenstein, “and even “Franken- stein Meets the Wolf Man!”

So, drop that rake and get into “Franken-Fall”- every Saturday night on Svengoolie!

Here’s a quick monstrous movie pick for today- “Frankenstein 1970!” It’s actually a 1958 film with Boris Karloff as Victor Von Frankenstein- who, in a very modern situation- allows a TV crew to shoot a documentary about his ancestors and their evil work at the family castle- but- he’s no slouch- he’s building an atomic-powered monster of his own! We won’t be showing this film, unfortunately, because it wasn’t a Universal flick-but anything with Boris and the Frankenstein name is sure to raise a few chills! Oh, and wait until you see how 1970 was envisioned- not a hippie in sight!
