Please! Please!! Please!!! Will everyone STOP sending me the joke about the guy walking home, who gets followed by a coffin clumping down the road after him? I know it’s a perfect joke for our hand at the door- that’s why WE ALREADY DID IT over a year ago!!! Understand that I do appreciate you guys sending door gags- and we do use some of them on-air- but- didn’t you see that one the time we used it? I know it was back when the show was ending at 1 am, so some of you might have dozed off. It’s just funny that so many of you decided to send that same joke to us! Okay- for those who haven’t heard it- to give you the short version-a guy is walking home on a dark night, when behind him, he hears “boom-BOOMP! Boom-BOOMP!” He turns, and sees a coffin bumping its way down the path towards him- so, naturally he runs- and behind him –“boom-BOOMP! Boom-BOOMP!” –the coffin continues to bounce along, right behind him…(there’s a lot more detail of his escape route, with the ever-present “Boom-BOOMP!” behind him)…he gets to his front gate, the coffin follows (“Boom-BOO…” –oh, you get the idea…)-it smashes through the gate, follows him into the house, follows him upstairs… with plenty of “boom-BOOMP”-ing embellishment…he makes it into the bathroom, and, just as the coffin is relentlessly coming through the door at him, He grabs the first thing he can find in the medicine cabinet- a bottle of Nyquil…and flings it at the coffin! And- you know what happens? …the coffin stops. THE “COFFIN” STOPS! “COUGHIN’?!” Get it? It’s a joke that works so well verbally- and the repetitive, and ever-increasing “boom-BOOMP!” sound effect builds the tension. So, there it is- yes, we already used it on the air- but it did, thankfully, help fill a blog for today!
