I just realized I’ve got some old business to address- especially since a lot of you saw clips on tv or on-line of it. I’m talking about the recent regional Emmy awards, where WLS-TV’s Janet Davies and I teamed up as presenters.(Oh, by the way- the nominated Sven t-shirt commercial did not win this year- But, it’s an honor just to be…oh, never mind…) Janet, who hosts the “190 North” show (not to be confused with “26 N. Halsted”) came up with the idea that she and I should dress as – each other! (I should add- Joey “Bozo” D’Auria and I once discussed doing the same thing for the Emmys- not dressing like Janet Davies, but dressing as each other’s alter ego) We decided to do it- and I brought her a Sven top hat, rubber chicken, and wig- and she already wore a black suit, and a red turtleneck (guess Janet has been too busy to watch and see my tuxedo shirt!) And- she brought me a wig, earrings, and a “190 North” polo shirt- PLUS a skirt, a bra, and some (ahem) washcloths to stuff it with! As the event was starting- we were “suiting up” in the back-to the amusement of host Tim Kazurinsky and the other folks backstage. We were the first presenters and it seems like the audience got a kick out of what we did. After we finished, the next category was one Janet was nominated for, and she decided that- if she won- I should go out there (as her) to get the Emmy! Well- she won! So, I strode out there, grabbed the Emmy, and started to stuff it into “my” purse- when “SvenJanet” came out, took it away, and stalked off! It was actually pretty funny. Now, if you saw the clips (and I think they’re on the WGN Morning show website, and a few other places online) –you can see I really looked like Janet- if she were to give up broadcasting, bulk up, and become a linebacker for the Bears. She made a much more convincing Sven, though…it was fun, she was a great sport, and we made everybody laugh a lot- so, it was worth it! Too bad they still don’t broadcast those Emmy events, eh? Maybe I should get Janet to write tomorrow’s blog…no, guess I’ll be stuck doing it. The least you can do is come back and read it! Deal?
