Mark of our wciu.com staff gave me another “misheard lyric”- a really good one! It’s the Billy Joel tune- “You had to be a big shot ninja!” (I know-it’s really “you had to be a big shot, didn’t cha?”- but I like Mark’s version better! Imagine the “Piano Man” hurtling over his keyboard, swathed in black, swinging his nunchucks!)
We’re getting close to confirming some Svengoolie appearances for the month of October- looks like we’ll have a really great Halloween month! Let’s hope for some good weather, and not the big chill- I remember last year, how our trip to “Fright Fest” up at Great America was a great time- but also one of the COLDEST nights of the month! (No cracks about the old Lon Chaney flick “the Frozen Ghost!”) The staff and cast members up there did a great job, in spite of the lower-than-seasonal temps, but, as far as park guests went- I don’t think anybody was heading for the flume rides!
I’ve still been getting feedback from viewers who were thrilled to see “the Creature from the Black Lagoon” on the show this past Saturday- and a few were confused when a promo for the same movie ran near the end of the flick, where you usually see the information about our next movie. Just a slight miscalculation, folks- as I mentioned before, next week, we have the sequel- “the Revenge of the Creature”- and, the following week, it’s the capper to the Gill Man saga, “The Creature Walks among Us!” I also heard from some Milwaukee viewers who were outraged that both Sven and Stooges were pre-empted this past Sunday. My apologies- pre-emptions are beyond my control- and know that the flick WILL be run again in the future…
I have to say, I’m very happy to see the classic “Dick Van Dyke” show on our sister station, Me-TV! I’m old enough (start your jokes now) to have watched those shows on their very first run- and it was appointment TV back then. It’s such a great show, with great characters…even a perfect Sven-themed episode- the one where Rob is watching the science fiction flick about the aliens who use walnuts to control the minds of Earth people! (Always check to see if someone has thumbs or not- if not, they may be aliens from the planet Twylo!) It’s no wonder such a great show holds up so well today- with great writing and acting (and insults, thanks to Buddy and Mel!)
In honor of this great show, I think I’ll go home and trip over an ottoman (the furniture, not the empire)…
