City Announces CTA Safety Upgrades

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has announced a new plan to keep commuters safe at CTA stations after a series of thefts and attacks. The city is upgrading its camera systems in all Red Line and Blue Line stations. The program is being aptly called the Safe and Secure program.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says it is an unprecedented modernization. There will 3800 cameras upgraded to high definition along with 1,000 new cameras are being installed.

In addition, multiple Green Line stations will see improved lighting. Overall it’s a $3.5 million dollar upgrade to make the commute safer.

The city says more upgrades will be on the way. They expect the first phase to be completed by the end of 2018.
